In 1990 Rob got himself a mower, line trimmer and a blower, bought a truck and trailer and went to work. It was tough to carve out a living by handing out flyers and relying on word of mouth advertising, but he was determined to make it work. A couple of years later Vivian joined him and together they've managed to keep the little business going. They’ve kept it simple; mowing, trimming, blowing, aerating, power raking, cleanups and small landscape jobs. “We wanted to be sure to offer personal and reliable service. The responsibility of having a large staff and a number of trucks, equipment and employees with a huge overhead was not in our list of goals," says Robert. Instead, owners Rob and Vivian feel that it's an honor when you hire QLC to take care of your landscaping needs. Keeping the business small helps them provide a personal touch and gives them an opportunity to work closely with the employees they hire. “The business has provided work for our kids as well. Although Jackie is no longer present in the office, she helped us for several years by keeping our billings up to date and helping with general office responsibilities. She has passed on the baton to younger sister Vanessa. Josh, our youngest, helps out in the field with Glen, and Michael providing day to day services.

In The Office - Vanessa Hairston
Vanessa is our younger daughter. Like Jackie, she also grew up around the business. She too is familiar with the kind of work that needs to be done in the field. She also went into the field, mowed some lawns, pulled some weeds and helped with some cleanups in order to understand what it is we ask of our field staff. Now in the office full time, she is instrumental in helping us by producing invoices, billings and taking care of our receivables. She also answers the phone, checks emails, and helps Rob stay in touch with customers. She helps us get out information about the industry by posting in our social media sites and our blog page.
